Rooted in Place: Our New Line Celebrates GI-Tagged Ingredients

At Kaaram OK Please, flavour is only the beginning. With every product we craft, we’re not just thinking about taste — we’re thinking about origin, culture, and connection. That’s why our newest line features three standout products, each built around a Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged ingredient — a marker of authenticity, heritage, and unmatched regional quality.
Why GI Matters
A GI tag (Geographical Indication) is more than a label. It’s a recognition granted to ingredients that owe their unique characteristics to a specific region — whether it’s the soil, climate, traditional methods, or deep-rooted cultural practices.
By choosing to showcase GI-tagged ingredients, we honour the farmers and communities who have protected and nurtured these native crops for generations. The ingredients are produce that’s deeply rooted in a specific region’s soil, climate, and culinary identity. GI tagging isn’t just a marker of origin; it’s a stamp of authenticity and a way to preserve indigenous agricultural knowledge and heritage. These aren’t just ingredients — they’re stories in every bite.
Here’s a closer look at what’s new:
Jam-A-Kaaram
A rich, sweet-heat Guntur chilli jam lifted with the subtle brightness of fennel. Guntur Sannam chillies, known for their bold spice and smoky undertones, are one of India’s most celebrated GI-tagged chillies. In this jam, they’re first fermented and then cooked down into a flavour-packed sweet-spicy jam that works as beautifully on a cracker as it does on a dosa.
Maanga Jalsa
This one’s a firecracker. We’ve used the rare green form of the Ramnad Gundu Molaga — a GI-tagged chilli traditionally seen in its dried red avatar — and paired it with Killimooku/ Totapuri raw mango. The result is punchy, tart, with a bite that sneaks up on you and lingers like a good memory. It’s our playful, seasonal take on what a thokku could be.
Date with Puli
Sweet, tangy, and a little smoky — this one’s for those who love layers. We’ve brought together soft dates and the GI-tagged Malabar tamarind or Kodampuli often used in coastal Kerala cooking. Kodampuli brings a deep, almost roasted, smoky sourness that plays beautifully against the natural caramel of the dates. It’s not quite a chutney, not quite a pickle — and unmistakably ours.
At Kaaram OK Please, we believe in celebrating flavour, seasonality, and provenance. These GI-tagged ingredients aren’t just ingredients — they’re living connections to place, people, and tradition.
Thanks for being part of this journey. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.
